Caught my first Bass and eaten it! 07/14/2025
When my beautuful wife, Sarita and I and our boy Harvey, moved down to Selsey back in March 2021, one of my ambitions was to catch and eat a Bass fish here. I have caught loads of bream and mackerel but the bass is the bigger fish.

The bass were 43cm and 47cm long. I caught another one which was 32cm long and we put that one back.
I cooked it in oven with loads of lemon. We put herbs inside with lemon and scored the skin.
I used a descaler to remove the scales. I wrapped the fish in baking parchment paper and roasted it for 25 mins at 220 degrees C.
It is a nice fish.
I have to say though I prefer bream in garlic and butter and mackerel by itself.

I used this lure which my dad bought me last year. When we gutted the bass the stomach and gullet were full of little whitebait and this lure was a bit bigger. The hooks are very sharp. The lure is a tackle house FEED 128mm 18.5g . There are a few different variations. I am curious about the sand eel one. I was casting it out without any weights into the middle of the swooping birds. You can see the sea bass swimming alongside or behind the lure as I reeled it in.

Aaron gutted the first one and I gutted the second one, I then put them in a bag and put them in the freezer. Apparently they will last 3 or 4 days in the fridge, but freezing them straight away is more flexible.
